If you have read any of my mobility and stretching stuff for a while then you would have heard me talk about 2 main products:
1 – Fix my back pain by Rick Kaselj
2 – Hip flexibility Solution by Eric Wong
The reason why I rave about these two packages so much is because I bought them, implemented the movements and stretches they recommended and my groin and back pain was reduced dramatically within the space of about two weeks. After this I cancelled all my future physio appointments and just followed Eric and Ricks programs instead.
Because Eric’s Hip flexibility solution was such a good product for me when I saw he had a Shoulder Flexibility Solution product I thought I’d check it out. I have had a niggling left shoulder for a while (it hurts when I put it above my head) and after seeing a physio friend (for free) I did some stretches and it improved for a few weeks but then the pain came back.
So anyway I went online and grabbed Eric’s Shoulder Flexibility Solution and have watched the entire package…..and let me tell you, there is a lot of top quality video in product, even more than the Hip Flexibility solution. I think this may be Eric’s best product yet.
What I thought I’d do with this review is post up what the package is, what is included as well as what I liked about it and didn’t like about it.
So let’s get started:
First off Eric has a degree in some sort of rehab and uses the latest research to back up his program. It’s not just a program some random off the street has put together. It is backed up with up to date science, which is great for you and me.
Eric’s (3D flexibility system) – introduction video
Eric believes in three main components of flexibility and within these three are 3 additionally subcomponents.
All of the stretches and movements in this entire package are targeting each of these three main components. Eric talks about the fact that most ‘stretching programs’ only target one of these three component and therefore don’t work whereas his program targets all three components simultaneously through a series of stretches and movements.
The three main components in Eric’s program are:
- Soft issue
- Joint capsule
- Control / activation
- Pain tolerance
- Prime mover
- Joint stability
Flexibility tests, 6 step system and more
Like I said before, this package contains a ton of video and it shows that Eric is super keen for you to not only fix your shoulder, but also teach you HOW the shoulder works.
He has a video called 6 Step SFS system where he gets into detail of why and how his program works for people and what you have don’t wrong in the past. This really helped me understand and know what Eric is on about, and why he has created this sort of program.
Eric has also included some videos titled Bones and Muscles so you can learn the structure of the shoulder and how it is meant to move. After watching these videos you know 100% that Eric knows what he is talking about.
Eric goes though the various shoulder flexibility tests you will do so you can self identify where your shoulders are at, and what program you need to do to get them back on the right track. Eric has five programs that are designed for you exact problem.
These programs are:
- Forward head posture
- Rounded shoulder posture (too much bench press and computer for you)
- Winged scapula (my wife has this)
- Behind the back routine (this is me)
- Overhead routine (this is me too)
After doing the self-identifying you can then get to work on fixing them up. So for me I am doing the overhead routine and the behind the back routine. Here is my weekly schedule:
Mon: Behind the Back Day 1
Tues: Overhead Day 1
Wed: Behind the Back Day 2
Thurs: Overhead Day 2
Fri: Behind the Back Day 1
Sat: Overhead Day 1
After doing the shoulder flexibility test if you don’t know which program to start with you can email Eric and ask him OR you can use his SFS scorecard (pictured) to help identify where your shoulders are the weakest and what program you need to focus on first. For me it was the behind the back and overhead.
The routines come in two forms, one aspect of the routine is a PDF and the other is video. The PDF explains which stretches I should be focussing on and the other is video on each and every video. With the videos you can have two choices, you can stream OR download them to your computer in both HD or SD. Because I have a mac and the hard drive doesn’t have much space so I went the SD option and it is super clear anyway, so the HD must be great.
In these videos Eric goes through how to perform each stretch and movement. They are filmed with great audio as well and from multiple angles so they are really easy to watch. What I have been doing is playing them my laptop and then follow along with Eric.
The great thing with the routines is they require minimal equipment so you can do them at home, at work, at the gym or in the dojo.
There are 2 bonus packages that come with this product. The first one is the rotator hardening routine and the other is the shoulder regen routine. Both of these are similar to the main product in terms of delivery. For example Eric shows us how to do each movement via video and the pdf that accompanies it is more or a routine pdf that helps remind me what to do next.
Like the main product the video is top quality, clear and stacked with great content. These videos aren’t just 30 second videos, they are super in depth are between 1-5 minutes in length.
How is it going for me so far?
So far I have only done a few routines so I can’t really say how it is going but what I can say is that I now know WHY my shoulder is sore and what I CAN do about it. I now know I have the movements and stretches needed to get my shoulder injuries back under control. If anyof you purchased my Kettlebell Workouts for Grapplers program you may recall how I talk about my nagging shoulder problem with left handed snatchs, presses or windmills. Well now, I have the tools needed to rid my shoulder pain and weakness for good.
This product (like most of Eric’s stuff) is incredible. I thought his hip flexibility solution was top quality in terms of content and professionalism but this product is better than the hip flexibility solution. It seems that Eric definitely likes to undersell and over deliver which is a great trait to have.
The product is a touch expensive compared to other shoulder products out there but I have not seen a shoulder product this in depth. And like Eric says in his introduction video, most shoulder products focussing solely on stretching or solely on mobility whereas his product targets dynamic and static stretching, mobility, relief of muscle tension, reducing muscle imbalances and more.
I don’t know about you but the last physio I went to charged me a whopping $130, for a bunch of rubber band exercises and 2 stretches and then they had the audacity to book me in for two appointments the week later. At least with this package it is almost half that price AND it comes with everything you need to fix your shoulders and get them back on the right track.
In the end I reckon if you have any niggly shoulder problems then you should grab a copy of this product. Even if it is purely for injury prevention. It comes with a 60 day money back guarantee so it is a pretty risk free purchase. You can grab a copy and if you don’t like it then you can refund it.
If you do grab a copy email me your receipt at firstname.lastname@example.org and I’ll send you a free copy of my foam roller routine free of charge.
