Do you have any rules for grappling?
I usually say this. “There are 4 rules at Judo,
1- have fun
2- don’t get injured
3- don’t hurt others
4- learn something
This past week while I was online I saw a BJJ guy post this online and I thought I’d share with with you. It was his 10 rules of BJJ training which i can now add to my 4 🙂
Check it out below:

The two that stood out the most to me is #’s 4, 6,7 and 9
#4
Everyday I am super thankful to be able to enjoy the beautiful sport of Judo with a healthy body. Yes I have torn practically every ligament in my joints but I can still ge ton the mat and do Judo as well as play with my kids.
So I am super thankful.
#6 Everyday I am trying to use only technique. I quickly realized after my competitive career that a lot of my Judo was speed, power or strength dependant, and not technical. Heck look at some of the IJF highlight reels today and we see a lot of Judo with strength only. It’s incredible, but very strong too.
#7 was something I didn’t do much as a competitor. I just trained with the same intensity against everyone an anyone. Now I am older and wiser so I treat everyone differently now.
#9 I believe today I am still very coachable. I let others run classes and I often ask questions. Just recently one of my blue belts taught me the difference between the okuchi gake and kouchi makkikomi and his explanation helped me understand the technique so much more.
Well thats it for me. Let me know via reply email what you would add to this list? Or what stood out the most to you.
Chat soon,
Matt
PS I have been getting some great feedback from people about my firemans carry DVD so thanks for the feedback
